Suicide Squad, a review

Well, I went to see the latest DC film to come out and it came in the form of the highly anticipated movie Suicide Squad and oh mY GOD IT WAS AMAZING, I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS, I LOVED IT.

And breatheeeeeeeee... I was super duper excited about seeing it (in case you hadn't of guessed already) and even published a post about the perfect top to go and see it in! This post is going to be a little review on the film based around the DC Comics supervillains.

I went on the day that it was released in the UK, the 5th of August, and well, I had to see it in 3D because me being me, I didn't book any tickets in advance therefore that was the only option left.

Anyway, this will NOT include any spoilers because fangirls just hate them, right?!

So here is 'Suicide Squad, a review'...

This is my honest opinions of the films, yours may differ and be the same.

CAST:

Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara

RELEASE:
2016

RATING:
4.5/5

A little bit about the plot (this will be brief so I don't give anything away)

The film is set after 2016 film Batman V Superman and what happened in that.
Amanda Waller (Davis), an intelligence operative forms a group of supervillians - former psychiatrist turned crazed super villain Harley Quinn (Robbie),  expert assassin Deadshot (Smith), boomerang using assassin Boomerang (JCourtney), an archaeologist who is possessed by an ancient evil force Enchantress (Delevingne), former gang member who can summon flames El Diablo (Hernandez) and Killer Croc (Akinnuoye-Agbaje).
With the help of field leader of the Squad Rick Flag (Kinnaman) and skilled swordswoman and martial artist Katana (Fukuhara), when Enchantress decides to take matters into her own hands, the team must work together and help save the world.

That has gotta be one of the worst plots I have ever tried to write, I am so sorry.
But I just can't tell you anything because I hate spoilers.
On with the review!

MY BODY WAS READY FOR THIS FILM!
One of THE main reasons why I wanted to go and see this film was because, yes, I am a huge superhero film fan but because I wanted to see how the film would be portrayed when it is focused on the villains instead. And they didn't disappoint.
Ok so some of the scenes weren't really necessary, for example Harley Quinn in the lift fighting, but hey-ho, who is complaining because that is more Margot Robbie on the screen and I love her. However, the slow-mo shots, the sassiness of some of the characters, it was definitely action packed to say the least.

Another reason is because of Jared Leto.
Now, I love him as the lead singer of the band 30 Seconds to Mars, he is one of my main crushes (drools) and you know what, he is actually a pretty darn good actor.
Not going to lie, I was very apprehensive when I found out he was cast as the Joker. This is a pretty huge role to take on, especially with the legacy that the late Heath Ledger made with his performance as Batman's enemy in The Dark Knight (2008).
But with seeing very little of him in the trailers and hearing about all the weird stuff Leto got up to during filming, I thought he was fab as the psychopathic super villain!
Yeah, the fact that his Joker has the word 'damaged' on his forehead annoys me a tad (it aint needed guys!!!), I thought he did the role justice.
With the amount of pressure he had to pull it off, this Joker was the right kind of badass needed for the film.
His laugh, his rather odd relationship with Harley Quinn and his bright green hair, I couldn't have asked for better considering the huge expectation I had for him.

As you could probably tell, I could talk about Jared Leto and Joker forever. However, time to move on.

The other cast members really pulled it out of the bag also. Margot Robbie in her adorably badass portrayal of Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot was fab as well as the others. They were really well put together and the cast had great chemistry on screen.
I will say I wasn't that keen on Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Don't get me wrong, she was good but yeah, I don't know why, there was just something off, I can't really explain.
I am guessing it was her weird accent when she was Enchantress but yeahhhhh.....

However, the thing I loved the most about this film was the music.
From classics like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by rock band Queen (althought it was apparently sung by Panic! At the Disco in the feature film) and 'Without Me' by rapper Eminem to new songs from Grace with 'You Don't Own Me' and Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa and Imagine Dragons with 'Sucker for Pain', every song was perfect for this film.
The beats, the lyrics, the scenes where they were heard, this soundtrack gets a yes from me.

The only main thing I did have a problem with is that 1% of the plot was a bit meh. It just kinda focused too much on Deadshot, Harley Quinn and the Joker, which is fine, but I wanted a bit more background on the other characters.
What happened to Killer Croc, why is he like that and why does Boomerang carry a pink unicorn around with him?
I just felt they could have done a lot more with the characters and portraying them.
Also who was the random American guy who suddenly appeared and became buds with Boomerang?! He was not even introduced!
-After doing some research now, I found out the random guy is called Slipknot. Yeah, I still have no idea who he is-
But the rest of the 99% was spot on.

If you are like me and love a good action film to sink your teeth into or just love a good fangirl session, this film has it.
Fight scenes, cool CGI effects, Jared Leto (because you cant't get enough of him in this review clearly) and even an appearance from Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Aquaman (Jason Mamoa) as well.

Word of warning, do NOT leave as soon as the credits come on, there is a little scene mid credits. Oooo sneaky sneaky!

Well there you have it, sorry if it was a bit blabbery but I didn't want to give anything away!
Have you seen it, what did you make of this badass film?
I cant wait to fangirl over Justice League now!!!
Until next time
