What is a fangirl?

Ah being a fangirl. It is both a blessing and a burden. All of the TV shows. All of the characters. All of the god damn feels. But what is a fangirl, I hear you say?

Well I am going to tell you and some other key information that comes along with it in my first post in my Fangirl series! I will also include some key words/phrases we commonly use.

So here 'What is a fangirl?'...

Now if you type into the good old Google 'fangirl definition' it will come up with this meaning:

Fangirl
ˈfanɡəːl/
noun
informal

a female fan, especially one who is obsessive about comics, film, music, or science fiction.
"your average fangirl, despite the implication of the name, is a grown-up"

Fangirl wardrobes

And well they pretty much hit that fandom nail on the head.
You can fangirl over anything!!!!!

Some of the most popular being: The Hunger Games (film and books), Marvel (comic books and films), DC Comics (comic books and films), Supernatural (TV show), Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit (books and films), Game of Thrones (TV Show), One Direction (band), 5 Seconds of Summer (band) and Harry Potter (films and books).

Fangirls will often have lots of things surrounding their obsessions.
For example: tops, figurines, DVDs, set up Twitter accounts, phone covers, signed photographs of actors and many, many, MANY more!
I literally just listed all of the things I have got... Oops!

My Figurines
However some fandoms (what we call of the fans in what they obsess over, most of the fandoms have their own names, some examples included) I am in are:

Merlinian (Merlin- TV show)
Sherlockian  (Sherlock- TV show)
Whovian (Doctor Who- TV show)
Sixer ( You Me At Six- music)
Audrey Hepburn (actress)
The Living and The Dead (TV show)
Human (TV show)
Batman (Comic books, film, TV show)

And soooooooooo many, many more (check out my full list on My Fandom page)

My fandom DVDs!
Moving onto key words/phrases that use fangirls tend to use a lot!

Fangirl/Fanboy
a girl/boy fan of a particular show/film/band/book.
Ship
From “relationship” – a combination of fictional characters as a couple. The name of a ship is often a compound of the two characters’ names, for example Merthur (Merlin and Arthur) or Johnlock (Sherlock and John)
Shipper
Someone who supports a “ship”.
OTP
Acronym for One True Pairing – a person’s favourite “ship”.
Feels
A strong emotional attachment in a character or show, their feeling towards them.
“I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” / “Send help”
Cannot deal with this fandom, could be after seeing a post, picture, episode etc
“Literally me”
I relate to this picture/post a hell of a lot.
"asadciafoiaf”
Cannot type properly as they are shock and cannot absorb what they have just seen or heard
“I’m done” / “100% done”
Jokingly "done" with this fandom after seeing/hearing something
“Too many feels!” / "Right in the feels" / “ALL THE FEELS”
Hurts the person feelings.

Well there you have it, the fangirl life!
And the start of my new series woooooo!
Are you a fangirl yourself? What fandoms are you in?
Until next time
